Sheet Metal Deep Drawing Process
Sinoway offers deep drawing processing services and custom sheet metal deep drawn stamping parts
With the heaviest deep drawing press of 3000 tons and other deep drawing production lines, we can manufacture most deep drawing products, including the truck body parts. And from the 1990s, Sinoway started the deep-drawing processing services and keeps for more than 20 years. And our custom sheet metal deep-drawn stamping parts serve a wide variety of industries, and we got excellent reviews from our customers.
Our technical team includes rich-experienced engineers, who have been working with us from the factory established, and contains young men with advanced technologies. And the whole technical team has been equipped with modern mechanical fabrication designing software, Auto CAD, SolidWorks, Pro-E, UG, etc., to fulfill the currently more complicated products’ diverse requirements.
Simple introduction of the metal deep drawing process
1. What is a sheet metal deep drawing process?
The deep drawing process is a kind of stamping process that uses molds to shape the flat metal blanks into various hollow workpieces or form other shapes from the existing open hollow parts.
In the process of deep drawing, the convex die keeps going down, and making the flat metal blank on the concave die shrink and gradually be pulled into the gap between the convex and concave dies to form a straight wall. While the area under the convex die becomes the bottom of the deep drawing part, the flat blank will be transformed into the shape we want by the end of the deep drawing process. The deep drawing die should not have sharp edges, but a specific radius is needed, and the gap between the convex and concave die should be slightly larger than the blank metal thickness.
We can make barrel-shaped, gradient-shaped, spherical, conical, parabolic, and other rotating body parts with the deep drawing process.
A video can show the deep drawing process simply.

2. Materials suitable for the deep drawing process
Softer materials are much easier to deform and therefore require less force to draw. And the most common metal we used for deep drawing includes:
- Cold-rolled steel plates
- Stainless steel like SS304, SS316
- Aluminum
- Brass
3. Prospects of the metal stamping and deep drawing processes
- High technology has promoted the transformation and development of traditional forming technology. Stamping technology will continue to develop faster, and along with this development, the demand for “precision, economy, and clarity” will be highlighted.
- Stamping and forming technology will be more scientific, numerical, and controllable.
- Focus on the whole process of product manufacturing and maximize multi-objective global optimization.
- The ability of rapid analysis and evaluation of product manufacturability and forming process will have significant development.
- Stamping technology, including the deep-drawing technology, will have greater flexibility to adapt to the future fabricating mode of small-batch and multiple varieties and meet the development trend of market diversification and personalized demand.
- Advanced forming technology based on the composite process will develop from manufacturing blanks to parts, from individual components to the whole structure.

Benefits of metal stamping and deep drawing processes
As an effective processing method in modern industry, the metal stamping and deep-drawing forming process have many unique advantages for producing various sheet parts. It is an advanced manufacturing technology that is irreplaceable. The stamping-formed components’ benefits include light-weight, high stiffness, high strength, good interchangeability, low cost, easy to realize mechanical automation, and high production efficiency.
Compared with other processes, metal stamping and deep drawing have a series of advantages: high production efficiency, low processing cost, high material utilization, stable dimensional accuracy, simple operation, easy mechanization, automation, etc. It is especially suitable for mass production.
Applications of deep drawing metal products
Commercial applications of this metal shaping process often involve complex geometries with straight sides and radii. And the most common industrial usages of deep drawing processes include:
Automotive body and structural parts
Aircraft components
Utensils
White goods
